Designers Drop Australian Fashion Week

Refrain from being crestfallen that international fashion month is over, Australia's fashion highlight is frantically approaching.

Lamentably, however, three stalwart's of domestic prowess will not be showing; Kym Ellery, Jayson Brunsdon and Alice McCall.

In an effort to incorporate the Resort buying schedule, therefore attracting designers who typically show overseas instead of locally, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) is moving to mid-May.

Ellery famously had Gemma Ward front her spring/summer show last year, though despite new dates, cites calendar clashes as the cause for 2016's absence.

It's the first local show since she became the third home-grown designer ascending to Paris Fashion week late last year, with her spring-summer 2016 collection.

For Brunsdon, it's a desire to focus on his Myer brands.

The silver-lining? Famed Aussie designer Dion Lee is set to make a comeback to the MBFWA schedule after three years showing in New York.

Yeojin Bae, Bianca Spender, Rebecca Vallance, Ginger and Smart and By Johnny have also been confirmed for this year’s schedule, with more announcements to follow.
